Greetings,

I pick up my 1st bike tomorrow and I'm wondering what if any upgrades would you suggest for a new rider? I'm considering crash bars and brighter headlights to start. Thanks in advance for the feedback.

:thumb on the MSF.
Your initial mods sound fine.
Ride it a while. Look at others. Check out online what is available and what you want to make it your own.
The more you ride it the more ideas you will come up with.
Customizing one`s bike is a very personal thing for many.

I'm mostly thinking about a seat and brighter lights. My main focus is comfort and visibility at this point.

loud pipes may be nice, but imo they are only heard by the drivers behind you. Brighter lights is a good first step. Ride it a bit before doing any engine stuff, as that can really work your wallet!

Great start, love the crash bar. Actually laid mine down while jacking it up. I caught most of the weight but the crash bar is some great piece of mind! I love the day maker. I originally went with a xenon bulb but it only lasted a year and melted my connector. They make heat dissipation blocks but I didn't know that.

Everything else can wait. I wanted to ride mine stock for at least 1K just so I had an idea of what the upgrades actually offered. Look forward to bike pics!

Visibility first:
  • LED Headlight
  • Custom Dynamics LED Turn Signals. Here you can get the Dynamic Ringz for the front and they double as auxiliary driving lights as well as turn signals

Then reliability:
  • Shift linkage replace with a better unit that has heim joints. And you do not have to pay the HD prices... you can find these on ebay for less than 30.00

The rest is up to what you want to make out of the bike. Have fun and be safe!

You can install heim joint ends on the stock rod as well.

The stock setup is crap, but easily fixed to be better than new.

Get a couple heim joints and you can improve the stock shifter rod.

You can get em thru Amazon
Amazon.com: Aurora Bearing Company CW-5S; 5/16"-24 Stud - RH / Rod End Thread - RH: Automotive

Have a couple sitting on my desk, for when I need something to do this winter.

Learned something new :thumb

So total for the two + shipping is around 21.00 + tax

Those on eBay are still tempting since you get a complete shift linkage for not much more. Some cool designs available.

But there, another alternative. :smile
