Hello all, I have a 91 xlh 883 that will not move once put in gear . Since this problem first arose I have replaced clutch with a Barnett's extra plate kit and adjusted it to spec did nothing. I believe it is something to do with the clutch basket the problem started while moving down the road.
Which sprocket are you guys referring to? That's a chain drive bike, right? I think it was '93 when all bikes were belt drive so you must be talking about a sprocket inside the primary, right? I have yet to get in the primary and just trying to understand how this works. If I build more power in my 103" I will have to upgrade the clutch for sure. It works fine right now but I can tell it would slip with more power.
Yes. If the clutch is good and it’s not pulling it’s somthing in the drive sprocket more likely
my boy got a brand new 19 883 . We went out for the first ride. Made it 82 miles I looked behind he hit the media. Waited till he coasted down and in gear let out on clutch and nothing. We called dealership and they said “new rider smoked the clutch”. I’m like no. Kid races motocross been riding all his life he hasn’t smoked a clutch in 82 miles lol. Turned out the drive shaft sheered right in half. Must of been a factory defect. And thanks to Harley getting rid of of our “trap” door they had to replace the motor. They had the bike back in 2 weeks tho.
So if clutch is good and belt or chains connected and all gears are like neutral somthing in that drive is not connected
The '91 883 can have either rear belt or chain drive but no matter both systems have front drive sprockets with splines than can strip out.
Agreed, seems the OP has left the room.
Well, instead of a one and done, whine and done, or crash and dash we could call it pulling a faltenhofel (the OP). I hope he comes back, I dont think I could remember how to spell faltenhofel.
