Anyone ever heard of sprinkling steamed rice in a motor to clean it out?

So I was BS'ing with the guys at work today and this guy has an old Monte' that was having some motor troubles and he said his old timer neighbor came down and told him to get some steamed rice and trickle it in the carb at a very high idle and he said he very leerily brought him down some rice and let the dude trickle it in. He said it blew black smoke like hell for about 5 minutes and said it ran fine for the next 50k miles. Haha I was wondering of anyone's ever heard of this. My buddies got a really beat old sporty that needs rebuilt, maybe I can get him to test it out.

Nah, won't work for a Sportster....for that you need to swing a dead cat around your head clockwise.

Or, was it counter-clockwise?

Hmmmm. :confused
With one pocket full of dated 1965 pennies.
If you have trouble with your transmition put banna peels in it.
That only works on Jap bikes.:eek
Apple pie on American bikes.
:think:rofl::rofl::rofl:
I've heard of oatmeal in the radiator and sawdust in the differential:

i've put black pepper in a radiator to stop a small leak and it works. i asked my 71 year old dad about the rice trick and i had to help him up off the floor
I went on a snipe hunt one time; just saying.
They call those bikes rice burners!

And rice in the intake....... Does not work on efi. That's because its high in CARBohydrates.
If the rice doesn't work drive a wooden stake through the AC.
Sake for metrics, Old Milwaukee for Harley's.

:thumbsup Good one Dave. This urban legend type remedy just proves that 1) people will try anything to fix a engine. 2) Internal combustion engines can suffer a lot of dumb stuff and continue to run for a long time. and 3) Back "in the day" people experimented with the effects of ingesting crap into their car engines instead of their noses.
And the TN Department of Environment and Conservation seems to think that it works for diesel engines as well:

EPA’s rules provide regulatory coverage for RICE, weather the engine is (new or existing) spark ignition or compression ignition located at a major and or minor source.

I know; it's a stretch.

I'm confused...so does it work or not ? :what?
Back in the fifties when my 1950 Ford 2-dr Deluxe flathead 6 cylinder 3 on the tree would vapor lock in the summer heat this ole guy said to put three wooden clothes pins on the fuel line , and ya know what ? It worked !!!
