I'm planning on riding from colorado down to AZ bike week later this month. This is going to be my first time. I'm not new to rallies - been to Sturgis 10+ times, Laconia, 4 corners, red river - a few smaller regional ones. It looks like the rally events are spread across multiple towns ?? What area would be good to stay in. I've got family in Surprise AZ - is that too far from the activities ?? Chances are it's be me & a couple of buddies - maybe 1 female rider that doesn't like to ride at night that much...

Surprise Az. Is not to far from the really. Head south on Grand Ave. and jump on the 101 north and head east towards Scottsdale Az. Depending on traffic should only take about 40-50 minutes. If you have a iPhone just plug in the address and it will take you right to it. Hope you have a great time, ride safe..... I'm jealous...

I am jealous too. I just left Az, I had a conference on Luke AFB by in Glendale. The base is only about 10 miles from where the Superbowl just was. There ere already a bunch of bike events posted everywhere. Also, there is the Spring Training for baseball in Gelndale, Phoenix area. I do not know when it ends but I am sure the hotel rates are higher than normal while that is doing, might be a deterrent.

I gotta move south. Can't take hearing about all of you riding in warm sunshine and I'm looking out window seeing 18" of snow it's cold and even if it got warm the roads are destroyed with salt and pot holes. Have fun ride safe all of you.

I'm not going to post all of the drama on here, but last year one of the harley dealerships took over az bike week. Not sure what that means exactly, but it pissed the rest of them off big time. So, they did a bikefest during the same time and had bands like sammy hagar and others play at their event at wild horse pass. It looks like they are doing it again and this year the bikefest is at Westgate (where the cardinals play). That is very close to surprise, Az.

I choose to go to bike week depending on the bands, not the beer. They had a disagreement with anheuser busch a few years ago and now you have to drink coors or miller. So if there's not a really good band booked I'll go elsewhere. Last year I put up with the nasty beers to see Joan Jett, Lynard Skynard and ZZ top. I haven't checked the schedule yet but I heard STP was going to play. Not good enough for me to make the trip over there AND drink nasty beer!

Anyway, just throwing some (useless) info at you. Ride safe.

oh, and Bikefest appears to be free!

Just saw that Ted Nugent is playing at Cyclefest. That may be worth drinking bad beer for.

The Talking Stick Casino is a resort and is just a few miles south of westworld (cyclefest).

If she doesn't like riding at night then she will hate getting on the freeway after the concerts. It's a mad house and nearly everyone is drunk! Or at least driving like it.
