First don't download to stick, download to desktop.

On a MAC take the downloaded file and place on the stick,
On a PC open the zip file and place the file that is inside the zip file on the stick.

The bike does not recognize a zip file.

Give that a try.
BOOM GTS Software update problem

I download the latest BOOM GTS software from HD site. I zipped the file generating an ISO format file. I saved it on an USB pen and followed the manual instruction.*

Unfortunatelly the BOOM show an error message saying that the file is not correct.*

What is wrong?

Many thanks!

I would first check to see which version is currently installed. If it is an older version. Then clear the file on the pen drive and go back to the website and fallow the download instructions exactly. Basically, just delete the file on the pen drive and start over. It could be the file caught a glitch along the way. Mine did the same thing, first time i tried this.
I've not played with the GTS update process, but the common problems with the BoomBox! 6.5GT were:

1) Wrong file on USB drive or within a sub-directory on the USB drive. Make sure your download is the proper one for your country/region.
2) USB drive faulty improperly formatted. Try using a fresh USB drive.
3) Downloaded via an iOS device. Try downloading using a Windows/DOS device.

Good luck!

Sorry but i MUST resurrect this old thread. PLEASE HELP
Trying to update a 6.5 Boombox on a 2015 SG. The current software version is: 1.19.0 Trying to update to: 1.22.0.3. Downloaded the zip file from H.D. web page. Saved the zipped file, then extracted all into a new folder on the desktop. Installed a flash drive, formatted it to fat32. Then copied all from the desktop folder to the flash drive.

Turned the ignition to acc. Waited for the "Warning" then hit ok. From this point on the only thing that happens is after about 30 seconds the flash drive slowly flashes blue. No change to the radio screen whats so ever! Where am i going wrong? I tried holding the trip switch for 3 sec upon key to acc, that only brings up the code reader on the odo? No codes! HELP PLEASE!

Reformat your flashdrive, and download only the .iso file, that should do it.

How do i get just the iso file? It's in one of those sub folders isn't it?

When you unzip the downloaded file from H-D, there will be two files, an .iso (usually about 1MB) and a .txt. Copy the .iso file into the root directory of the USB drive and make sure it is the only file there (just as a precaution).

This video is a few years old, but does a good job of walking you through the entire process.

2 files? Jeez I got:
These are the files i got from the download:
swdl_boombox_6.5GT file (984 MB) open that:
armie file folder (291 KB)
bin file folder (994 MB)
etc file folder (67.3 KB)
lib file folder (0 bites)
mnt file folder (57.8 MB)
sbin file folder (1 MB)
usr file folder (919 MB)

I don't see anything labeled .iso ... I admit i'm as dumb as a box of rocks with this stuff!

Scott, I've worked with rocks before, you got this.

I think you may have downloaded a bad - or the wrong - files. I can't find those folders for any type of Infotainment System download (updates, dealer POIs, or map updates). Could be that they had a bad load when you went to download.

1) Assuming you are still based in the USA, go to BOOM! Box 6.5GT Infotainment System | Harley Davidson USA and download the files for the Boom! Box Premium. The website says it's 840MB, but when I downloaded, it was actually 860MB (zipped).

2) Once downloaded, open the zip file and it will expand to 1.008GB. It will show in Windows as a Disc Image File, but actually has a .iso extension if you check its Properties (swdl_boombox_6.5GT.iso). Copy this file into the root directory of the USB drive. It won't be found if it is placed in a directory folder.

3) Plug the USB drive into the cable in your glove box of the bike and turn the ignition to Accessory or On. The Infotainment System will read the USB drive and automatically begin the update process. You will need to confirm the update, then it will do everything else for you.

One more question: Does it make any difference if i use "quick format" or, should i just wait out the clock on a full format of the flash drive?

I don’t believe it will make much difference in this application.
