The front brake lever should activate the brake light. If the rear brake pedal turns the brake light on, then you probably have a bad switch on the front brake lever. If neither the front or rear brake activates the brake light, then you could have a bad light bulb or possibly a blown fuse.

The housing next to the M/S has a little tit from the brake switch sticking out. Look and see if it is lined up with the brake lever .
Not sure what you mean by "running diagnostics" but the front brake light circuit is a simple switch and wiring to bulb. Switches are prone to failure. Trance wire from switch to first connector and short the two wires at the connector, if bulb lights, switch is bad.
Custom grips installed ? Make sure the switch and brake lever housings are butted up tight together otherwise the lever wont contact the brake switch when pulled.

What is m/s? Stock grips will be changed soon.

Master cylinder is what he meant. There's a switch in housing beside it.
Diagnostic codes are for drive train only.
The switch is in the right side switch housing. No switch in mine.

Find the two wires and buy a switch. Got a manual? If not get one.
If you or the previous owner had taken the switch houseing apart, like said before "to install custom grips" theres a small brass metal spring that will fall out. It's a flat V shaped spring. I have an 05......don't ask how i know this......:whistle ..the spring pushes the little button back out. The spring is in the middle of the pic, 2 is the switch, the spring holds the switch out.

Thanks guys!!! Switch is ordered and yes the spring is still there.
