Clutch Adjustment Expectations

I recently changed fluids on my 09 FXDC and as I did the primary I did my first ever clutch adjustment at 14,300.

I was unsure what to expect as I was exhibiting nothing unusual other than difficulty in finding neutral on a recent long hot day.

What I found was I had to turn the adjustment screw over three full cw turns before I felt resistance, which was very firm when met. When I met that resistance I stopped and backed off 3/4 turn.

Sound reasonable? I don't have enough time/mileage on the new adjustment to know if it's better or worse.

Also, I did not use a torque wrench on the set screw as I couldn't hold the inner screw and use the t-wrench simultaneously. I just set it "pretty tight".

I am just glad I did it myself and have added one more thing to my repertoire of tasks I am able to do myself. I am far away from a DIY stage 3 upgrade though!

Thanks all for the input,

"Three full turns" doesn't really mean a whole lot because that inner adjustment stud backs out when you loosen the locking nut.
I'm with chas. Otherwise, everything you said sounds consistent with my experience. Be sure to adjust that clutch cable properly after a few test pulls on the lever.

I had a middle school moment with this one!!
