Clutch Making Funny Sounding Noise?

May I suggest…

Crack open the factory service manual (and maybe a cold beer if you choose) and perform the following:

Remove the clutch adjuster ball and ramp parts and inspect.

Loosen the clutch hub retaining nut */** .

Remove the clutch discs and plates, inspect for any damage, especially the spring plate in the center of the clutch pack, the spring plate is a common source of trouble.

Inspect the outer shell and the inner hub surfaces for burrs that could cause the discs or plates to hang up.

While the discs and plates are removed from the clutch, try spinning the inner clutch hub, you may be able to feel if the clutch hub bearing is bad.

The reason the clutch hub bearing is suspect is because a clutch hub bearing only has movement when the clutch lever is pulled in….

If you haven`t found a smoking gun yet, you will have to decide if you want to replace the clutch hub bearing.

If so, remove the engine sprocket and then you can slide the clutch, primary chain and engine sprocket off as one, then you can remove and replace the hub bearing, or take the hub/shell assembly in to a shop and have them replace it.

If you are not going to remove the clutch hub, don`t forget to re-torque the clutch hub retaining nut (per the service manual) after you have reassembled the clutch pack.

*The reason you would remove the clutch hub retaining nut now is because once you remove the clutch plates, you can`t loosen the nut, so if you find out later on that the hub must be removed, you would have to reassemble the clutch plates and discs.

**Check the shop manual before loosening this nut to determine whether it is standard thread or L/H.
Haven`t worked on Sporty`s in a while, so I don`t remember...
