I found on a post somewhere here and cant find it again about shimming or removing metal from the compensator nut.cant remember how much or the actual reason for this.changing mine on Wednesday want to do it right the first time so if someone can refresh this info. would be great,thanks all.

Your '05 Std. should have the hollow nut, no need to remove metal. Reuse the shims that are in there, if any.
Couple drops of red Locktight on the nut threads and torque it down.

Did`t find any regarding altering the original nut.
Did find a thread regarding replacing it with the Screamin Eagle nut\kit.
Hopefully someone will know exactly what you are talking about and point you in the right direction.

remembering something about removing .030 off nut but not sure

I think that was from the earlier nuts that were dead head, no hole all the way thru. They could bottom on the end of the crank before getting completely tight.
