I suspect many of us started metric... For most of us it was a matter of cost/availability. For me, one of the very best and most enjoyable things about HD is the torque off idle. My KZ900 KZ1000p Yamaha and all did have enough power, but you had to REV UP to find it... I just really dig the way my 96 inch pulls my arms from idle...
And the RUMBLE beats the whine any day too.
