Detachable sissy bar to narrow for docking point.

My detachable sissy bars (i have 2 of them a chrome one that came with the bike and a black one i just bought) for my 2013 Street Glide. Neither one will fit my docking point. They are about .100" to narrow on each side. The rotary latch it's like you have to spread them apart and still to narrow! It's like i have to remove the docking point chrome bushings from each side and mill them each about .100"! They are the right sissy bars! Anyone else run into this problem?

First off welcome to the Forum! It is traditional to go to the new members thread and introduce yourself before posting any questions.
Did you install the docking hardware yourself. Try flipping the chrome bushings over, if I recall the are not symmetrical.
They go on they shock for the front docking
As mentioned... if you did not do the install yourself, check the installation instructions (can be found online if you do not have them). Could be that those were installed incorrectly and need to be flipped. Or they forgot the washer that goes on the inside (#9 in the diagram)...

But the front part of the sissy bar should fit without issues on the front (front mounts to the shocks).

Is it a 4-point docking kit, 2-point?

Also... the plastic inserts/spools are not completely round, read the instructions... you need to rotate them to align with the way the backrest falls into place.

The black plastic spools have some marks in them so you can tell what is the thick side versus the narrower one... they are oval, not round, if that makes sense.

I had to play with this to make sure the back rest went in without much problem.
Thanks for the replys! wachuko i don't know who put these on as i bought the bike from a friends estate who died unexpectedly in March. Looking at your diagram the #9 washer is missing all 4 of them(i have the 4 point docker) which if the washers were installed would make my docking point even wider than it is now! (which is my problem) And yes it fits good in the front mount at the shock. As of now the only way to make them fit is to mill .100" off of both #2 bushings in your diagram!
On the number 3 item the collars are different thickness on each end. Did you try flipping them end for end ? The instructions for my docking stations said to do this if it was too tight or loose.

Also check that you do not have more washers than required where item #10 is...

Basically, check that all the install is correct... if you were missing the washer #9, what else could have been done incorrectly that is contributing to the bad fitting...
I have no washers where #10 is and my docking point is close to .250" wider than my backrest mounts!
Do you have any photos of the issue?
I'll try to post them tonight!

As can be seen by the photo's the Rotary latch on the sissy bar are too far into the right and left docking points / the docking points are to far out!
Harley's fit and finish is usually spot on and since you purchased this used there are some unknowns involved. slow down and look carefully at the parts diagrams. You will sort it out.
So as I metioned previously in this thread flip the receiver collars over they are not symetrical. Which will make the rotary latch fit. Is there a washer between the rotary latch and the sissy bar.. There shouldn't be.
Make sure the collars closest to the front wheel are the longer collars. The rear are shorter
Never mind it's the spacer in the front which you appear to have correct

I was just going to point that out too Jax. But you beat me to it.
