I believe that is an oil line... from the looks of it I’m also guessing it the oil return line.

Softail, what year?

After you go to the Newcomers section and introduce yourself, go here and put in you bikes info and find every part on your specific bike at a really good price. If you want to shop around somewhere else, you'll already have the part number and name to make your search easier.....

Crankcase vent tube.
You are correct sir... totally missed oil cap.

And I believe factory were rubber. So Op could go back to rubber with minimal down time

Definitely a rigid oil line (that's a compression fitting on the left end). I have similar oil lines (stock OEM) on mine, but my bike is 23 years old, didn't know they still used rigid lines.

Then again, I dunno anything about TC's and M8s, especially not the oiling systems. I suppose they could use those rigid lines for other stuff?

Where did the part break off from? Did it run to/from the oil filter?

It goes from the oil fill spout to where he has the screw stuck into the engine case near the rear most pushrod tube.
