So I'm planning on the Dragon Tail Memorial Day weekend.
I will be down there to start the Tail around 10:00am. given the distance and then heading up the Blue Ridge Parkway, where would be a good town to end the day? Looking for a nice B&B type place.

I know there will be many stops along the way, so I'm thinking about 200-250 miles that day, with all the stops.

If anyone has done it before and would like to share their experience, I would appreciated it.
I did a search, but didn't find too much....

Like my Nova Scotia trip, I'm blogging the trip (see link below)...should be a fun 4 days, leaving out of Cincy.

Fontana Dam Resort is very close to the Dragon and has a motel with a restraraunt. We stayed there last year.

I never looked into the B&B aspect due to me living only an hour and a half away from the dragon. Good luck with the trip and enjoy.

They have a few rooms at Deal's Gap but not many. Robbinsville has several good motels. If you're going across the Dragon and then towards the Blue Ridge you might want to check out Cherokee, NC. There's all kinds of motels and you can hit the casinos while you're there. Have fun and ride safe.

cool! Maryville was going to be the first stop leaving Cincinnati. It looks like it is on 129, the tail.
Cherokee was on the list of areas I was looking at.....
I know the crowds I'm in for on that weekend, but thats ok, we will manage to have a great time out of it....
Thanks for the posts, much appreciated....

Marion, if Maryville is where you are planning to stop then by all means do so. There's plenty of rooms available, the Harley shop is in Maryville, and there's some great riding nearby. If you leave out from Maryville, take 321 towards the Smokies and cut across the Foothills Pkwy. You'll love the scenery, it's a great place to get the curves into your head without being stressed, and it ends at 129 down by the lake.

Yes it will be crowded but that shouldn't be a big issue. You'll be amazed to pull into the parking lot at Deal's Gap and see 100s of motorcycles parked there. Just ride your ride and pay attention. Enjoy. Send me a pm when you head this way and I may escort you through.

I stayed in a little mom and pop hotel in Robbinsville. Nice place and biker friendly. Robbinsville is a small town that shuts down after dark. Haha And Graham Co. is a dry county. If you like an adult beverage you better bring your own. IIRC, there is also a couple big chain hotels too.

sounds like a plan!
I am staying at Chilhowee mountain resort in Maryville.
Great Smoky Mountains Cabins, Bed and Breakfasts, Inns | Maryville, TN

Normally I stay at different places each night, but this trip, there looks to be so many riding routes, I'm just staying in the area and trying them out. The Cherohala Loop looks like a good one as well.
