So I was listening to the news last night and the anchor mentioned coming up, Harley in the coal mine. The story was that since Harley's are expensive bikes and their Q2 profits for 2012 are up 30%, and globally, sales are up 2.8, (4% in the US). Perhaps it's a signal that things with the economy are finally getting back on track. :thumbsup

Economy must be doing better. We had meat with dinner tonight. We didn't really like that dog and with one less to feed, we're likely to have meat again really soon.......

As for Harleys profits: I'd expect them to be higher. They closed a boat-load of dealerships nationwide this year and laid off the employees. Subtract overhead, cheaper parts purchasing with increased outsourcing and that equals more profit.

Its flawed math and another ploy for the liberal media to blow more smoke up our asses and make us think O-scama is actually doing something more than lying to our faces and golfing and vacationing on our dime......something I couldn't afford to do with my family this year, like in past years.

Yep.....economy is almost back to normal.

They have actually been saying for a year now things are getting better...but I have still yet to see a raise which has been promised now for 3 years....

In my job I have seen businesses picking up and building getting filled..So I would say yeah things are getting better for some...

How bad can the economy be when the DOW is approaching a record high, and corporate profits are soaring? And if you still think it's bad because none of this helps you, you're right, because this proves that "trickle down" doesn't work...

Because this time the economy is being propped up by government subsidies to the banks, auto, green, states. Eventually that will run out and the nation will face a real depression. Trickle Down works, when the money in the economy is earned, not given and when the free-market picks the winners & losers.

What he said. :thumbsup

Not very many know the difference between earned, and given money for showing up.

Before the great depression, I had 42 people, working 3 shifts. Since the "recovery"... 26 people, working 3 shifts most weeks are 4 days, instead of 5. Lately, we've been working more 4s... The government can slice the math any way they want, its not improving.

They will say whatever it takes for Nobama to keep the private plane, helicopter unlimeted vacations...............................If you keep telling lies sooner or later people start believing them!!!

One of the reasons for increased profits is due to reduced payrolls thanks to the lay offs. Those business that are growing are afraid to hire more people so they pick up the slack with OT which is cheaper than a new employee. Obama care and new and more regulations will make new employees too expensive to have.

They are also sitting on funds for expansion and equipment because if obama is re-elected they will be seeing prohibitive taxes and would lose the capitol equipment resently purchased.

It's not better, just the calm before the STORM.

With greater unemployment (which just went up a tick this week) there will be no one to buy much of the stuff we still manufacture. THE DOWNWARD SPIRAL

Enjoy your bikes while you still can. OR GET OUT AND VOTE

ABC Botches Jobs Report: Touts Incorrect, Obama-Favorable Unemployment Numbers
Published: 6/1/2012 12:56 PM ET

Good Morning America's Josh Elliott on Friday reported incorrect jobs numbers, touting stats more favorable to Barack Obama and less reflective of the dismal facts. In the 8am hour, news readerElliott insisted that "new figures show" an unemployment rate "sitting" at 8.1 percent for May with 158,000 new jobs created. In fact, unemployment rose to 8.2 percent and only 69,000 jobs were created.

The monthly unemployment numbers are usually released about 8:30am. In the hours before an announcement, GMA has previously reported what the projections suggest.
In fact, in the 7am news hour, Elliott allowed that "the government is expected to report it's added some 158,000 jobs." He offered no such caution in the 8am hour.
ABC's huge graphics with incorrect data didn't help.
Possibly in an attempt to rationalize, Elliott mentioned that it's "even worse" in Europe. He added, "The unemployment rate in Spain rose to 24 percent."
Despite getting the numbers wrong, Elliott did concede, "The number of jobs created fell far short of the numbers we saw earlier this year and those new jobs last month were not enough to put a real significant dent in the unemployment rate."

JOSH ELLIOTT: This morning, May is in the history books. It was not a good month for wall street. The Dow suffered its worst month in two years. Part of the problem, no real improvement in job creation. This morning, the government is expected to report it's added some 158,000 jobs, far below the numbers we saw earlier this year and not enough to lower the unemployment rate, which still sits at 8.1 percent.

JOSH ELLIOTT: Meanwhile, millions of Americans looking for a job may have to wait even longer.New figures show no real improvement in the labor market last month. The number of jobs created fell far short of the numbers we saw earlier this year and those new jobs last month were not enough to put a real significant dent in the unemployment rate, which currently sits at 8.1 percent. It's even worse, though, in Europe, whose massive debt crisis is now jeopardizing the entire global economy. The unemployment rate in Spain rose to 24 percent.

Is that right or what!! The global giant I work did basically the same thing two years ago to "shore up the bottom line". Closed a buttload of offices for no apparent reason and then opened them smaller with more outsourcing and the same amount of business. In other words 4 people doing the work that 14 did before the reorginazation. Greedy bastards. :cussing

The thing that really worries me are the jobs they are sourcing to India. It's just not call centers and the helpdesk anymore. They found ways of farming out support positions I would never have thought about losing. Invoice rating, billing, A//R and A/P and even freight track and trace people are being replaced by overseas entities. They find more ways every day to eliiminate American jobs.

As a business owner of a plumbing company who knows what it costs to be in business. We also charge the right price to be profitable. It is hard to make any money when everyone has their hand in my pocket. How can we hire more people when the average family insurance is $1200 a month. Then we have to pay taxes and workman's comp. The guy need a new van. That's 30K. Also the employee wants to make 100K working 9-5 Monday through Friday. They want to drive Escalades and buy new Harleys working 40 hour days. To save money I answer calls and I am on call seven days a week to make ends meet. Everyone wants to blame the other. Yet no one want to work hard. When I interview guys they haven't worked for two years. Since they been sitting on their ass getting fatter, collecting unemployment, with their hand out saying what about me. Who will take care of me. It's owned to me. Yet we keep blaming a government that has never worked. This country doesn't produce anything anymore. Get use to this economy. It's not going to change. The price of things are just going to keep going up. This country is running out of money. You can't keep spending and not think you will never run out of money. If each candidate had a solution. They would say it. All they keep doing is blaming each other. We sit around waiting for a solution that will never come.

Hate to break it to you guys but is not going to change with a new candidate. If its a new one the only thing he will say is its the last guys fault and people will buy it for a while then blame him and boom new candidate new promises. Is all bull.

As far as I'm concerned the economy is in the dumps. Anyone who thinks the Government is going to help us out now or after the election is in for a surprise. Remember they were the ones who basicly got us in this mess. There is no accountability for reckless spending - so no correction in its direction. This country is being destroyed from the inside. :( Get ready.

My take on "Is the economy getting better?"

This article sums it well, but is a complicated read. “Audit the Fed,” – Restore “Free Markets for Free People”

My summary. Sh&t storm ahead, but eventual recovery is going to happen. It always does. When is the big question??? We are at the bottom of a business cycle and the Feds are printing greenbacks like there is no tomorrow. This circulates to banks and stocks, but is not giving the anticipated bottom line of more productivity. It just propped the Stock Market. Also, the consumer has decided that saving 1 out of every 2 dollars earned is better than spending.

When you print free money, it becomes worth-less. When our dollar buys less, this is inflation. It is not possible to print like Obama and the FRB have done without significant inflation. I want to be wrong on this, but I can't make the math work.

The theory is that if you keep printing, it will curb deflation. However, we have markets that are deflating regardless like housing, but agriculture and energy are already up by 50% as expected because there are more greenbacks.

I am not a Ron Paul guy, but I am in favor of removing the secrecy of the Federal Reserve Board and how money gets to everywhere. This part will give us short term pain, but long term benefit. Some times the hands off approach does need over-site. It has been abused before, but the whole concept is thousands of years old.

My humble 2 cents.

The sh*t storm I see headed our way is much larger and more serious than anyone can comprehend. The entire basis of our "moral behavior" is founded on consequence. If you don't pay your stuff gets taken away. But as we continue to get screwed into the ground, I can see a point where there just isn't anymore left to take. The most dangerous person to face is one who has nothing to loose. Put a group of these people together and I can guarantee nothing good is going to happen. As I stated earlier, I run a business, that alone should be scary enough.. not so, the sh*t storm ahead scares me more. I hope I am dead wrong....

WTF ever happend to, "We The People" ?.............
When was the last time the politicians did something for the common man? As far as I'm concerned they represent their own pockets and big business.
