I have a 2014 street glide special and put CFR slip ons.. The bike now coughs & burps a bit. I have been told several things & I get more confused with every conversation.

Do I need to change my air cleaner if I am putting a screaming eagle racing tuner in??

Harley told me the best way to go is to put a V&H true dual header, a new air cleaner with the tuner then I should Dyno the bike. $2100....Friends have said no need to Dyno, just have them tune it.

The bike only has 700 miles on it, but could not stand the way it sounded off the floor...

I am no mechanic but on my 15 SGS I installed the V&H header, Hi output duals, screaming eagle tuner and air cleaner. No Dyna, $1700. Did it before I picked up the bike (like you did not like the stock sound) does not backfire or have any issues. My old bike (Heritage w/103) did everything the same other then the tuner only remapped and it backfired terribly.
I have a 2013 Road Glide, this past summer I put on V/H true duals, V/H twin slash mufflers, V/H stage 1 air cleaner and their tuner. They set the map base on what I bought and it runs great. If you go with stage 1 air and a tuner, I don't see the need for the dyno.
My knowledge is so that if you are not changing the air cleaner you have no need for any kind of tuner. For now I'm runing only with Rush Mufflers all other is stock HD and there is a little bacfire and nothing elese.
Not sure why you would put a tuner in and not let the pump breathe. Do the tuner and high flow air cleaner. Only $120 more for more potential.

check out the S&S stealth air cleaner if you are going to change your air cleaner. You can use it under your stock cover or there are a multitude of different covers you can use with it. Here are a few pics of the one I made for my 09 FatBob to cover my Stealth cleaner.

Also you may want to consider the cost of a auto tuner either the cobra or the PCV as it could save on tuning costs

You would not need to put a air high flow air cleaner on because you put on a tuner but you might need to put a tuner on your bike because you put on high flow air cleaner and slip on's especially if you go with dual headers.
Your bike will be running leaner that is why your bike has the issues. The tuner will get rid of that but you will need to dyno it to get the full benefit of the mufflers, AC, and headers. You could try it without a dyno but it will just be a generic tune and not specific to your bike. Especially if you go with the headers, I would do the dyno. Do it right the first time and save your self the time and trouble later. JMO

Agreed.
Performance air cleaner, performance exhaust, and a fuel manager (to add fuel to all that new air you're providing) is the recipe for what is called "Stage 1." Stage 1 is considered the first step in improving your bike's performance.

You can have a dealer flash your bike's computer in lieu of adding a fuel manager, but many prefer a richer mixture than even that flash provides. I am among them.

The HD Racetuner and the Power Commander V are both quality fuel managers.

With either, a dyno is not necessary as there are dozens and dozens of preprogrammed maps that you can download to your fuel manager. Simply go on their website and find the a/c and pipes you installed and the desired fuel mixture and download that map to your fuel manager.

Some still prefer a more specific tune than a canned map can provide. Those people choose to dyno at Stage 1.

Hope this helps.

you shoul look at oposite side.

You gave us an oposite information regarding tuner and air breather.

If you are going to change air breather than you need a tuner and not the oposite.

If you are going to mount only tuner you would not get so much out of your engin if you do not change air breather/cleaner.
Start with the obvious... I am surprised the Harley dealer would tell you to install or modify the bike knowing that it will kill your warranty. Beware of these changes and make certain the dealer will honor your warranty after this.
Next the "tuning"... YES you should tune the bike after installing the exhaust and air filter, however keep in mind that you can remove the stock filter and cover... drill out the plastic backplate and then reinstall the stock style K&N filter and front cover. Works extremely well, very cheap, and definitely maintains the sleeper effect.
Lastly you do not need to always replace the entire exhaust if you simply change the mufflers with slip-on's and change out the baffles for the effect and gains you are seeking. You can effectively "tune your exhaust this way without spending an arm & a leg...

Please everybody watch out for the warranty stuff, and make these changes knowing the possible results
