The geezer glide has been on the lift for quite some time this year. Started with an oil leak. Replaced the rear head gasket. Then the shifter broke... I went a little "wild". New linkage, new rear tire, new drive belt, new swingarm bushings, new wheel bearings. I even got the backrest mount re-welded.
Got it out and started riding last week. I heard a ticking sound that got worse and worse. Found a slight crack in the Samson exhaust right by the mount at the transmission. Riding home Friday a chunk the size of my fist blew out. Dang it's loud.
An 1130cc member (Sharkey) set me up with a slightly used 2:1 D&G setup. It will be here a week from Monday.
That being said, I still love the V-Rod, but the geezer glide is so full of memories. Every time I ride, I remember old friends, Daytona trips, camping, Natchez Trace, Big Bend, Hill Country, Ozarks.... the smell of the camp fires. The R doesn't have that effect.
It's also a sense of pride to know I did the work myself. I did the top end at 80k. I put in a high pressure/high flow oil pump. I rebuilt the tranny. I put on the Screamin Eagle heads. I put in the 3 phase charging system...
I am really looking forward to getting the new pipes on. I am also looking forward to the next 100k of miles on this bike.
