Favorite Ride in Your State?

What would it be, what could we look for if we're passing through in your area?

And for those in a province or country, what would yours be?

Here's my current favorite... Highway 149, starting from just west of Gunnison, to its termination at South Fork and highway 160. 113 miles of lonely, curvy, sweeping, H-D bliss. It ascends and descends two mountain passes. It snakes along two whitewater rivers, including the headwaters of the Rio Grande. It passes through two historic towns, including Lake City near where Alferd Packer snacked on his buddies when marooned by deep snow one nasty winter.

Every state, every area, has its riding gems. I got a kick out of the grand sweeping and fertile views of Kansas while riding east last July, the manicured towns of Illinois, the lonely reservoirs of eastern Oklahoma, the Kentucky horse country, and much more.

Highway 149. It doesn't have the publicity of some of the more popular routes in the state. This is a good thing :). Ride it if ever in the area.

Or specifically with Google Maps, you can link directly to the page. There's a link highlite in the top right of the map. Where it says, "Link to this page"...........

Here's Valley Forge State Park, In Valley Forge, PA, near Philadelphia.

Here's another map: http://www.lib.utexas.edu/maps/national_parks/valley_forge_map.jpg

Gettysburg is another good ride to go through on a bike.

Pocono Mountains, Lehigh River Gap, Jim Thorpe......

Dave... Have a son who is a year away from being a history teacher. One of our ideas is to ride during the summertime to historical places, where he will take photos and videos, bringing them back to the class, building a library of content over time, supplementing the textbooks and bringing a personal p-o-v. You're near ground zero of some places we want to see, including Gettysburg.

To date this is the prettiest ride I know. I'm sure the more miles I log more will come. It is around Seneca Lake in New York. Lodi, will a tiny little place has vistas that are just gorgeous. Watkins Glen is an interesting place to check out along the way. FYI: Keith Code holds a track school down there.

Keith Code is the man.......:D I recommend reading "Twist of the Wrist" (Keith Code wrote it) to anyone who rides a motorcycle, sportbike or cruiser. Great information.

A friend of mine lives about 45 minutes from Watkins Glen. (Elmira, NY). I'm only 3 hours from there. That's another infamous track. Mid-Ohio is another.....:p The area around Watkins Glen is a terrific place to ride, with scenic views and wineries all over the place....

More and more wineries keep popping up as the days go by! Much money has been poured into the area recently than ever.

Ahhh. OK, will assume you have a map image you want to post, that it is on your hard drive somewhere.

Make your post and as you are doing so you will see an button option at the bottom of the screen "Manage Attachments". Clicking this will pop up a screen where you can browse your hard drive and select the map file you want to attach. When you then submit your reply your map image will be available for viewing.

Let me know if I can clarify anything, also, if you need help creating a map.

EZE....you'll have to come up again and ride up through Rt 21, west of the route I picked. It is much more hilly, curvy and gives you a feel for the Bristol Mountain area (Steppenwolf's from next door...that's his ski mountain.), and takes you up through my town at the north end.

We'd love the opportunity to welcome you to town!

From the Town website

"It is no wonder that you remain a vivid, vital part of my spirit. You have touched the souls of the Senecas who called your water 'The Chosen Spot' - Canandaigua'. Hundreds of moons later, you let me know your history, feel your sparkling water, see your sunrise and hear your joy of life and laughter. Onanda, every moccasin, every sneaker, every bare foot that has paced your shore, traveled your glen or hiked your hill has been touched by your gifts.

You have been through many changes since the Senecas grew from you. White men from New England and Virginia found your beauty, Mr. Phelps and Mr. Gorham sensed your kindness and kept your name. They brought rugged individuals to 'The Chosen Spot' who civilized the land without taking too much in return. All those who have come somehow knew that this lake with rolling hills and shale cliffs should remain as close to nature as possible."

Steve,
I was thinking that this thread is a great idea. I was also thinking it might be better to start a thread for each state or region for easier future look up. You dont have to be from the state, if you know of a good ride post it up in the appropriate thread. Opinions?

I get the point about making it easier for looking up in the future, but the idea about the state registry might make it less interactive because folks may not look in on it so much. How would it work as a sticky in the General Motorcycle section with a note to look through this thread for ideas for rides?
