:) Hi guys
I went to my local Harley dealer to purchase my first bike, Sportster Iron 883 for 10K usd, and I signed all the paper even deposited 1000. The salesman told me the bike wasn't available, and I have to come back next couple days to pick up. Two days later, I came, and they told me the bike still not ready yet. The truck will come tomorrow and they will do "PDA" (meaning assemble???) so I have to come back tomorrow. Is this happens as usual? does this local dealer do everything correctly? Thank you very much.

At my dealer, you put down a deposit and you ride out that day. That is really odd.

Ok, good intro. Now I care. Many folks snipe with one complaint post then are never heard from again.

When I bought my BreakOut the same thing kinda happened. They told me one was inbound. I put down 5K and ordered some parts and a full month later they told me they couldn't get it. Then wanted to charge me for restock fees.

If you picked one off the showroom floor it is wierd that they are stalling but it sounds like you are waiting for one to be delivered to the dealership. They need to accept the bike and do all the set-up prior to giving it to you, they sound legit. Always ask the questions and take a note of who you talk to. If you ever need to make a complaint you don't want to say "some guy at the dealer told me xxx.

Time seems to stop when waiting for a bike :)
Maybe they are waiting on a title. It just sucks that they won't explain why it isn't able to be picked up.

Something doesn't sound right there. Also, 10k seems like a lot for a new Iron. I got mine a couple weeks ago for $8300. You know that destination and set up fees, sometimes totaling around $1500, are BS add on charges. I never paid them on any new bike I bought. Just ask the dealer about removing those charges and see what they say. The first dealer I went to said no way. The second did it without hesitation. Also, they had to find my bike, which took them 1 day. They did not take a deposit until the bike was in their showroom.

They need to advise the reason for the delay. Waiting on the title shouldn't be any issue; especially if it is new. They either sold a bike that was already spoken for and are trying to cover their a$$ or there may be something legitimately wrong or a good reason for the delay; but I'd be screaming at this point. I would be asking for the manager, GM, and/or Dealer principal (owner).
Ok. Thank you all of you. Yes they had to order my bike. I came to pick up today morning and the bike wasn't there yet. The manager said tomorrow. Now he called me that my bike is ready -_-, but I am at work. I will definitely pick it up tomorrow. :)
I would be hitting them up for some goodies for the "mental anguish"...... :)
Yeah I would ask for some motor clothes gift cards tee shirts or something with the wait.

I took the bike home this morning. I like it, but quick question. Can I bring back the iron 883 to them and switch to 1200 custom? I like more power. Can we possibly do that?

I'm $ure the dealer will be mo$t happy to take your 883 in on a trade for a 1200. That'$ the busine$$ they are in--buying, $elling, trading.
Nice answer: If you like the bike but want more power you do not have to change bikes. You can change heads, exhaust, air intake, cams and on and on.

Not so nice: really? You've just had the bike a day and you want to trade it? WTF? Sounds like you really fell in love with it. Sure, the dealer will sell you a new bike everyday until you reach your credit limit. ENJOY!

I just recently purchased a 2012 leftover forty-eight from my local dealer here in Hawaii for only $8,395. That price tag seems kinda high for a Iron 883 but I guess it's just relative to where you live. I put $0 down and drove away the same day. I used to sell cars and I have never used stall tactics with customers. I just tell them the truth and they seem to appreciate that more and are more understanding. Hope you enjoy your new ride.

Aloha

I can't imagine there is any way they can offer the bike to another customer as new. Even if there is less than a mile on it, title has been transferred. The trade will probably cost you but would probably cost less than all this:

Indecision can be costly .
trading in the 883 for a 1200 will give you a good financial "bath"! I have a 2014 xl1200c and my wife has a 2013 xl883l. Hers may not jump off the line as fast as mine, but it is a pleasure to drive. You will get used to yours as it is not a bad motorcycle.
:biking: I'm in process of breaking in. I have gone over 3000 rpm somehow I noticed; Its not many times. Can you guys suggest the best way to break in a new Harley please? I wanna take it on highway, but I have to go around 65-70 which I can't do on fifth gear without going over 3000 rpm.
Check your owners manual. It contains the instructions.

Not sure why you're asking on here - ask your dealer.

In the UK they did have a promotion for a while where they'd take back any 883 at the price you paid against a new bigger bike.

You DID test ride bikes before you bought this didn't you?
Just take the bike back to the selling dealer and tell them this POS wouldn't fall out of a tree , Couldn't run outa sight in a week and you want to trade for a 1200 ! Tell them after making you wait they sold you a lemon . And if you can't get a 1200 then you want a Super Glide !
