I am in need of a sending unit for my bike,do I have any options other
than HD parts? the reason I need one is this winter i removed the tank
did some maintance and put the tank back on now no work,I tested the gauge..ok wires hooked up correct..yep...took unit out..looks ok moves freely...I did put my test lite in the circut and the gauge in the dash reads the resistance in the lite bulb so I assume the gauge is ok am i missing anything? thanks in advance!!!

I would double check all connections, and give it a dry run before you button it up. Make sure your ground wire is attached properly also. Use a coat hanger and move your sending unit arm "in place", making sure it's not getting hung up or anything. You can look at the unit itself, make sure the strap is making contact with the "board", and make sure the board isn't worn through anywear.

Do you have a multimeter? There's a section in the service manual that says what the ohms should be when empty, and when full.
