Great Weekend

I figured, at 47, it was time to get my real motorcycle license. So, a buddy and I signed up for a safety course. It consists of 2-2.5 hour classroom sessions, and 2-5 hour riding sessions on 250's. Had the first class last Wed and first ride yesterday. It was cold and windy, but the class goes rain or shine. It was informative, and my buddy and I helped out the instructors a little, since there were a few that were very green. A few dropped bikes, and some of the exercises were painstaking, but overall it was good.

My buddy and I rode to the course early in the cold morning. I stopped by my local leather/bike clothes shop and picked up a pair of Tourmaster Venture pants the day before. They are fantastic. I had to take them off about an hour in, as it was getting a little warm with the sun shining, even though it never go above 50*. We put our 5 hours in on the little bikes and as soon as I sat on my RKC, it was like.... wow is this comfortable. Then......wow is this heavy! No biggie did a few figure 8's and we were on our way.

The plan was to take a nice ride thru the Western PA mountains and grab some lunch after we stopped at my place and picked up my wife. I told my buddy that there was about a 5% chance that she was coming, due to it being cold. When we got to my place, I found my wife waiting impatiently to go and asking if what she was wearing was going to be warm enough. We loaded up and went on our way. What a great day. Beautiful views and it was brisk. We made it to the restaurant and had a great lunch and a drink and watched a bit of the Steelers game. Got warmed up and jumped back on for the ride home. So in the end we had about 5 hours on the 'mini' bikes and then another 2 or so hours on the big bikes and my wife wasn't ruined by the cold. I did score her a pair of new Tourmaster pants on Ebay for $25. They should be here tomorrow, hopefully they work out well and we can get a few more rides in before the snow flies.

Sounds like a great day!!!
[BHi Mr Chevelle. Nice story for sure. I've rode for yrs myself. No big deal. BUT ! When my wife got the bug it was a BIG deal. We went and bought her a brand New Softtail from Town & Country motor sports in Mi, With the understanding that she would too take the riders course. Well she went to the 5 day course that was at the U. Some friends of mine were the instructors. So after a week of riding and class room. It came down to test day. Well She didn't make the cut :(. VERY SAD day for both of us. BUT my buddy came up to us and said. WHY he couldn't pass her. She would lock up the brakes 90 % of the time. He Said that knowing us as he does. He couldn't pass her and have something happen to her. So he made a suggestion. Their was a weekend class that was all day Fri, Sat And Sunday. All she had to do was show up and practice her breaking. Then Sunday afternoon she could re take the test. So here I am at home working on my Harley. When the phone rings in the garage. I answer it and there is this person screaming into the phone :eek. I said hang on slow down. Who is this ? Its me She said I PASSED i PASSED  Man I started laughing my ass off. She asked SO can I take my bike out today when I get home. I said come home and we'll go for a little spin. WOW! I was one happy dude to have my wife to be able to share our riding experiences. So she got home about 45 mins later and so happy to be able to finally get to take her Brand New HD out, So that we did for about an hr or so. It was nerve racking for me. Watching her and the other drivers also. But we had a GOOD time . And still DO,,, [/B]

Great story! I suggested a few times to my wife to come with me to the class, even if she didn't ride on her own, but she hasn't got the bug......yet. I told her if she wants to take it, I'll go again. After seeing 'true' beginners, I've decided that I will have to get her on a dirt bike or small bike first to go over the basics and also to see if she can do it. I'm sure she can, but I wouldn't want her discouraged or embarrassed. I go back and forth as to which is better (read less dangerous) her on the back, or her on her own bike. Right now it's a push.
enjoyed both Chevelle's and Misfit's stories.
