Hi all,

How easy is it to change the top gearbox cover on a 2000 Softail Deuce. It’s the last bit of chrome that needs changing but accessibility looks difficult. The oil tank etc is right in the way.

Is it possible to remove/install without too much excavation!?

Thanks in advance
Remove 5 Allen screws to lift the trans cover off is all. The only obstacle is the oil tank, a tight squeeze ! You can loosen the oil tank fasteners enough to move the tank for clearance but the battery box is part of that equation. Just loosen fasteners enough to allow components to move around is all. No need to disconnect the oil lines either. Like said " tight squeeze" !

OK - sounds feasible although I wouldn't want to scratch/damage the replacement top cover. I'll take a more detailed look when I get time.
Tape the cover up with blue painter's tape to avoid scratches then remove tape after the cover is installed.
