Hello everyone so I’m working on putting together my build and got to the point where I’m installing the starter and clutch assembly etc.
I got a jack shaft assembly ( V-Factor starter shaft kit- replacement for HD OEM part 31477-93)
When testing it it doesn’t work correctly. (Pictures and vídeo attached)
i think you are ok. on the bike(with primary case on) it is bathed in oil while cranking and when it starts the speed of the ring gear probably helps it to retract. try spraying some wd 40 on it while doing your test run.
Do you have the c-clip and spring inside the coupler before the pinion ? Also the long bolt should only be tightened snug, the pinion should be free to move around a bit.
Also try the bench test with a fully charged (12.8v) battery so the pullin coil has enough juice.
Careful putting your fingers near a juiced starter. Seen a guy's thumb go thru a pinion and ring gear doing exactly what you're doing !
Thank you all for the advice
I found out that the bushing in the inner primary was not good and it was binding the shaft ..
Replaced that one and things are smiley now
Thanks again
