My old air cooled Yamaha used to do this when it got too hot. I'd just reach down and adjust the idle screw.

high idle
After riding my bike for a while my idle stays high, have to shut down and then ok for a bit. Any ideas it is a 2006 Ultra with a 95'' big bore kit and 203 cams and a power commander.

Try cleaning the IAC pintel. If that doesn't help disconnect the PC to see if the symptom clears up.
