Starting this thread to find out how much it cost to repair or service your Harley.
Dealership or Independent shop ?
Total cost ?

Was the service or repair satisfactory and would you recommend the shop to a friend ?

On my 97 Heritage, the starter gear on my clutch basket was worn to the point it wouldnt start, I also had a broken tooth on the starter gear (on the actual starter). The dealership quoted an $1800 repair which included the entire clutch basket and starter.

Luckily I had a friend that was a mechanic on the helos I work on, I am a wire chaser, and he stepped in. He showed me that I could get a new starter gear riveted on to the clutch basket and a new gear for the starter. I got the parts and took them to a machine shop and did the entire project for about $400 and ended with a much better product. I was able to get better gears for both since I was doing them both and it started better than ever. It would also have cost more but my friend walked me through the pulling and reinstallation of the clutch basket.

5,000 service '14 Ultra Limited, $397 with synthetics.
'05 Heritage Classic stator replacement, $115.

Both at the same dealership. I have had no bad experiences with them.

Just my opinion but I feel the dealership is more then an independent. New pipes, tuned an breather. For all the same kind of work the independent was over $500 cheaper. Also work was done great.

I own a shovel, so I do my own work; with two exceptions:
A local indie did my heads-new valves, guides, seals, resurfaced, glass-beaded = $550
(Highway Choppers-Glendale, AZ they did a great job)

Paint = $600 (a kid who worked at a shop that painted the trucks where I worked)

I have been very satisfied with the service provided by the dealership and have high praise for how they have treated me.

I hope this is what you were looking for, otherwise, I just made on horrendously long post based on an error in my understanding. If you would like cost breakdown for tire changes, I can post that too.

Great ! This is the info I'm looking for.
Total on labor, total on parts, happy or not with the service.
No need to break it down further.
I'm looking for the cost spread across the forum, for uniformity or not.

Holy crap!?!?!?!?!??? That is freaking amazing.
Between the cost of a stator, oil, primary gasket and labor... how did they make any money?

Sorry for the hijack Schmidtys.

Travi ... what your husband did is by no way usual maintenance service. That sounds more like custom work and would be charged for cost of parts and labor per hour worked. If that '07 Dyna is his own bike then the labor is FREE!
