How Not to transport your 2014 Harley

I have had a few Harleys and when I would trailer them on vacation I would just toss the keyfob in the tour pak and all would be fine. I'm sure we have all done this. This is even how Harley has transported my bikes in the past when picking up for service. Well that does not apply to the 2014 Harleys. I just got back from Wyoming and trailered my 2014 trike there with the keyfob in the tourpak. When I tried to start the battery was dead. I called Harley and they said that the 14 Harleys need to be put in Transport mode or the battery will go dead. Transport mode is simple to do. In your owners manual there is a plastic card you can carry in your wallet that tells you how to put in in transport mode. I did this on my return home trip and all was fine when I got home, no dead battery

I saw something about that in the owners manual. Will go look closer. Trailering two bikes to Myrtle Beach in October.
Thanks
I think I better dig out the manual too...
from the manual;

Transport mode
To arm the system
`with ignition FOB present turn ignition switch to IGN.
`Before security lamp goes out, turn ignition switch to OFF.
`Press both turn signal switches. Both turn signals flash at once.
To disarm the system
`With FOB present turn ignition switch to IGN
Happened to me this spring as well. Also I would suggest once the bike is secure and in transport mode to Rock it back and forth to make sure the security system won't go off. Thought I had it set once but when I shook it the security went off. Redid the transport mode and all was well. Now I do the set and shake thing every time I put in the trailer.

Great info . Small and easy to miss section of owners manual.

Thanks,
Use the key to unlock ignition, start bike and ride it to point B. This will not give you any battery problems.
On any Harley, 2007 or newer, you never leave the fob with the bike during transport, as it will kill the bike battery.

This is ONLY on the HFSM models, (Hands Free Security Module) not the TSSM models, where the fob has a button to press.
The instructions for putting in transport mode are easy to follow but the last line is a little confusing. When you press both turn signal switches at the same time the green indicators in the dash will flash then the taillights will flash three times. This tells you are in transport mode. If you want to make sure you are in transport mode take your fob away from the bike so it is not seen, then turn the ignition switch to the on position, if it is in security mode the odometer will show "Enter PIN". Turn switch back off and your good to go.
What's a trailer?

OK, I guess I'm not understanding this whole thing. Why does the battery go dead in the first place? If the fob is with the bike, doesn't this tell the security system all is good? What drains the battery?
On the newer bikes the fob doesn't need to be with the bike. If the bike isn't in transport mode the security system will continue to flash the lights at every bump in the road until the battery goes dead. Also with the fob present or not on the newer bikes the security system will arm itself after about 30 seconds.

wow , never had this happen to my bike. 2010 FLHTK Limited or my 2012 CVO , put key / fob with bike, no issues with alarm trying to reset/ or blinkers flashing. no dead battery
from the manual;

Transport mode
To arm the system
`with ignition FOB present turn ignition switch to IGN.
`Before security lamp goes out, turn ignition switch to OFF.

Easy-peasy
so thats why they gave me that funny lookin book. I better check it out. Nice tip about transporting...
Does that mean I shouldn't keep the second fob in the tool box next to the bike in the garage?

no Chief, that is fine. It only matters if the bike is moving.
