I wanna hot rod.

I've only recently bought our first Harley. I've been bitten by the bug. I'm already thinking about a second Harley. I want this to be a beast. Maybe 120+ " with 120 ponies. I don't think I wanna do another large chassis. The Roadking already filled that spot. The warrior is a monster as well but I want to build american. Want to keep with the air cooled engine so no v rods. I'll buy used and maybe find one that someone already thru a year of my wages at it and wants to move on to something more comfy. So I need help in choosing the chassis type. Softail, Dyna,?? It needs to be easy to mod power trane if I buy stock and do work myself as far as putting motor or trans. Herd soft tail isn't good choice to replace motor unless you like taking tranny and swing arm loose. So throw me your experience and thoughts please.

I would see how much an FXR frame would cost, Less flex than a dyna...so I'm told.

Thinking your right. Not a bad idea.

Build a sleeper 88" Sportster.

NRHS - High Performance for your Harley Twin Cam, Evolution, Sportster or Buell!
What is going to be your primary use for the bike?
Is it strictly solo, sometimes 2 up?
Solo rider. Got to be to ride for 200 miles without to much fatigue. Mainly a good time bike. Able to take on the nastiest bikes in its own league. Visit the 1/4 mile occasionally.
Ever think about a good Old School rigid?
Not for everyone but 200 miles should`t be hard. Can always have several seat options depending on your mood and purpose for riding that day.
Been reading on some fxr. Makes sence. But have an open mind. A sportster build would be cheap but I think I want a lil bigger bike. Rigid? Could.

You should think about that a bit...

Do you want a hot-rodded Harley or do you want a powerful sport bike?

The Road King is already a purpose-built long range cruiser but it's also basically the same bike as all the other FX/FL V-Twins, with a difference in suspension set-up being the only truly significant difference.

So why buy another Harley if what you REALLY want is high-performance road monster?

If you're REALLY sure you want a "Harley" you should consider just building from scratch. Buy yourself an S&S Frame and an X-Wedge 132 engine, then go from there.

But if not... If you're looking for raw power and speed, you'd be hard pressed to find a better option than a crotch rocket. If you don't like jap bikes, there's Ducati.

Just saying...

Be sure of what you want and why you want it before spending any money.

Sounds pretty sure to me.
.....but I want to build american. Want to keep with the air cooled engine....
:think Toss that in a rigid frame.... Set it up bare bones. Power to weight ratio should be good.
Might be a lot of fun to toss around.
I've had the Kawi zx14. Had the R1. Had the V Max. Have a 105 hp 125 tq warrior. Want good ole american muscle in a light chassis. I've seen the wedge. You may have something there.
Question...you interested in only straight line performance, or one that does that and also handles reasonably well???? Thanks.
Yes, both would be a plus. The warrior was set up to do both nicely till I raked out front and lowered. Now it rides straight very well. Lol. Been on fast metrics all my life and now would like to go American. The sound and grunt is what I am looking for. Big torque as well as hp. So to get the big tq gotta go big cubes without a turbo. I'm looking for people's input on what chassis and motor would be best for what I'm asking.
Sounds pretty sure to me.
a) Harley isn't the only air cooled engine on the market.

b) If he wants to keep it American, that's fine. Not my money either way. I'm just pointing out that he should consider which is more important to him... having a high performance bike or having an American bike. Both decisions are equally valid.
having a high performance bike or having an American bike.
Why "or". When they can be one in the same.
Well, I want both. It's looking like an fxr frame and then a modded big bore Harley based motor. I could keep throwing money at the warrior and get bigger results as well but I want to do this with a Harley.
I would reconsider the Sportster as mentioned by others. In the 60's and 70's, the Sportster was pretty much what the big boys raced at the dragstrip. IMO the Sportster is the best bike Harley makes, but because of my size I have a hard time with it, so I ride a Dyna.
