After a long winter I finally have my transmission oil leak under control. Now I want to set the ignition timing and I can't find any information on whether or not the Andrews EV 27 cam requires different timing from the stock marks. Anybody?

Stock timing, at 1050-1500 rpms is 35* for all bikes except California models.

Where you'd set it with an EV27 depends on your type of ignition, compression and other mods.

I read that same document first before I posted to see if it had any information that would directly state advance or retard the stock ignition to no avail. My documentation that came with the bike only indicates the cam and pushrods were replaced which leaves me with stock everything else (95 Dyna FXDS-C Evo). It really ran good yesterday after I got the primary back together, I was just seeking some advice on slight improvements I could try for.

I'd start from stock, and move it up 2* at a time, checking for pinging and for hard starting due to too much advance. Don't forget, what works now might be something else in the dead of summer.....

Thanks Dave. That's pretty much the sum of my own thoughts on the subject but it's always good to hear from an experienced Harley guy when you're a newbie like me.

What engine? Dynas started with Shovels I believe and have had Evos and of course Twin Cams.

I checked his profile Mike, It's a 1995 FXD, like mine. 1340 Evo.

Correct, 1995 Dyna Convertible 1340 EVO, the only aftermarket mods to the engine appear to be the EV27 and adjustable push rods. Currently running a Kuryakyn Hypercharger air cleaner with a K&N filter; the exhaust are reputed to be early Screamin' Eagle (although they have no identifying marks) but I wouldn't have a clue as this is my first HD. The fuel delivery system is working very well and I've tweaked the CVK; I was just looking for guidance on the timing since it is awkwardly arranged, you just can't be on both sides of the bike at the same time.

That's exactly where I should have been when I pulled the timing plug without thinking about opening a new, better crankcase vent. I was amazed that my timing light would shoot that bright a strobe through that much oil mist...:rofl:

YUP!! One of them little plastic see through timing windows really helps.:nod:lol8
