LED lights tend to be more "focused" as compared to incandescent lighting. They don't spread out as wide and have more defined edges where the light ends, and if you have them aimed too high, they tend to leave a darker spot right in front of the bike. I think that is what some perceive as "holes."

I have used LEDs for a while. I have never had issues with oncoming traffic. But, I do live in a populated metro area. The street lighting is so bright, I could probably ride around with my lights off and not notice!
