I hope you'll excuse a question from a dumb "furriner" but after reading this forum for a year or two there's something I need to ask - seriously.

Is possible to be a Harley owner and a Democrat? Or am I totally misunderstanding the political leanings of Mr Average poster?

This isn't a joke - I'm genuinely curious.

There are probably Harley Democrats on this forum, but I would imagine they are quiet. Kinda like a black guy posting on a KKK forum. :)
So is there a forum for Democrat Harley Owners? I'd like to lurk around that for a while just for comparison. Hell, I might even try to cause some trouble there too - maybe suggest that gun control doesn't work :stir

The vast majority of them know gun control doesn't work. But like one of them said not too long ago, "Never let a good crisis go to waste". with the laws on the books now the camel has its nose under the tent.

I think there are quite a few democrats on this site. Most from what I can tell do not share the same feelings as the rest of the party on our right to own and freedom......
That is the nice thing about this site, it has folks from all walks of life on it..... Heck... even folks from the other side of the pond!! :)

Baldrick, oddly enough, when I was a kid in New Orleans, the Republican Party was pretty much non-existent in the South. Somewhere in the mid 60's, the Democratic Party under Lyndon Johnson took a radical shift to the left and abandoned the philosophies (some good, some not so good back then) that had resulted in the "Solid South" of politics. Within a couple of years, the Republican Party emerged as dominent in my area. Now keep in mind, I am only familiar with the politics of my geographic area from those days, but the "Great Society" welfare state envisioned by LBJ was totally repulsive to the self-reliant, work hard for a living people that I grew up with and those values my Dad drilled into my brother and me are pretty much gone from the Democratic Party of today. So, in a sense, yes, I WAS a Southern Democrat that was fortunate enough to have grown up at a time that allowed me to escape some of the bad ideas that were associated with the South. I no longer can nor will support their agenda that has leaned way past Socialistic today.

People are allowed their opinions , you can agree or disagree , as long as you allow and respect it . The problem comes when you disagree and force YOUR opinion on others . Both sides have much to improve on and both sides have items that are just plain wrong . Freedom allows us to take whatever points benefit OUR own situation and reject those that hurt us , all the while , hopefully , living and thriving under the American way . Sounds kind of hokey I know...

We exist, but often get smacked down pretty hard. I've learned to just let it go. Haha!

It kinda seems to me harleys, freedom, guns, kinda go hand in hand. So it would seem quite normal for these folks to trend right. I used to be a demacrat, Southern Dems were conservative, they let the socialist take over the party, that was it for me. I switched parties when slick willie ran for office.

I hate politics. Other than the gun thing and a few other things, I'm not a fan of the GOP. Around here there are only three reason that you might be a republican. You either are a millionaire, own a big corporation or are a complete moron. Take your pick! Like I said...I hate politics!

Baldrick,

Everything said above is true. Before Kennedy, we were known as "the Solid South" and the voters were called "Yellow Dog Democrats" because they would vote for a yellow dog before they'd vote for a Republican.

But, the era, starting with Kennedy, changed all that. The regional differences are virtually the same as they were before the Civil War, but the parties are reversed. Look at maps of the Blue States (Democrat) and Red States (Republican). With the exception of about 3 states, it is the same as the division of 1861 (and those exceptions are easily explained).

And, just as it was during the Civil War, there were Southern sympathizers (known as Copperheads) up North. Many of our brethren here from the North are modern day Copperheads, and I'm proud of them. And, as it was in 1861, the real split is over government control as opposed to states rights. Instead of slavery and tariffs, this time it's gun control, spending, taxation, and entitlements.

I think the people still feel a bond with each other, though. Right now, I am livid at the bombing of the Boston Marathon and the murder of the MIT policeman. I hope they get that sorry S.O.B.

But, unless things turn around, I, personally, am for a split into two countries.

Good news is you have a lot of company with POTUS and his following...
Since I am not a millionaire, nor do I own a big corporation, I must be a complete moron.... :laugh

I agree. I seriously question the brainpower of anybody who's a Republican but not a millionaire. Pragmatism and logic seem to fly out the window when people start buying into the idea that they have to protect millionaires because "someday I might be a millionaire". Yeah, well, more power to you! But until then stop shooting yourself in the foot! The GOP is laughing at you! Haha!

Please turn in your guns, give your paycheck (if you work) to big brother and he will give you what you need.
I will continue to pay for you so I can have what I want, not what someone else tells me what I can have.
Hey... good news, they are giving away free Kool-Aid!!! All you can drink!! :know Maybe if were lucky we can get rid of that pesky "constitution", it's outdated anyway.... :laugh:laugh:laugh

If you're constantly voting against your own interests based on faulty logic, irrational belief, and misunderstanding of the Constitution (correct spelling) methinks you're the one drinking the Kool-Aid, my friend.

Thanks..... I didn't grow up using computers, needed to use my hands to make a living...
Thank you, for pointing out that I fat fingered my post, I have gone back and made the correction. To be honest I was a little set back when I read your orginal post, then I rememberd where it was coming from, I wouldn't expect anything different....

Going back to my orginal post, I believe this site is awesome because it has folks of all different walks of life, those on the left, those on the right, those in the middle. Having a different view is what gives us the opportunity to discuss different topics and see different points of view and yet still share the common interest of riding HD's... Most of the time we respect each others views and take the high road if we disagree, tonight... not so much.

With that said, I am going to go against my better judgement and stoop to your level, "You sir are a azzhole"!! Good luck to ya, I'll keep paying my "Fair share" to make sure you have a good life!!!

In no particular order, WTF misunderstanding of the Constitution are you referring to? What part of it says I have the right to steal from someone else as in super-taxation of someone who has a lot of money no matter how he got it? What part of it says the government must support those who will not work?
Is it irrational to believe that after working my ass off all of my life, I don't have the right to do with what I earned without government permission or fear that they will take it to give away to someone else? AK, your post completely baffles me.
