I was reading about Chilhowee brand lever cover installation and it was suggested to use a bead of contact cement or double sided tape on the outside of the lever. The cowhide they used is feels wonderful and I don't want to harm it. Having never done this before any advice you have to offer would be appreciated regarding what type cement or tape is best to use.

Contact cement is usually pretty safe to use. Just use a very light amount on both surfaces and let them dry before bringing them together.

So I just go to the store and pick up a bottle of "contact cement"....
Any particular type? I know that sounds dumb, but I've just never used it before.

Yeah. Contact cement has the wonderful property of being very benign (sp?) and easy to clean off. It gives enough grip for many uses. I try contact cement as a first line for a lot of things.
