i decatted my pipe on my 2013 roadglide ultra....no noticable difference in heat, power,or performance. installed v&h propipe and commander v and there is a difference in power but there is still heat. have screaming eagle intake for both exhaust setups. unless some one has before and after dino done i am not going to believe any improvements from just de-catt just my opinion since your asking

Ask someone that rides as a passenger.

Air cooled motor. Or only heads liquid cooled. Will always be heat. But anything that can be done to reduce it sure will not hurt anything.
De-catting will help reduce that heat. You may not feel a difference but your engine, oil, and as stated a passenger likely will.

Along with a few other relatively inexpensive mods, each good for helping reduce temps xx degrees, will make a difference.
Did it on my 13 Street Glide. Noticed less heat & more sound on my V&H slash pipes. Well worth it to me.
Did it last year and noticed remarkable heat loss and increase in torque. Did have it dyno'd and torque moved to 92.6 and HP at 81.2.
A catalytic converter is designed to get hot and retain heat. It needs to heat to function correctly. It only makes sense that the heat is going to radiate from it, and your leg and your passenger's leg is right there above it.

Removing it did reduce the heat significantly for me. It doesn't help the motor run cooler that I know of, but you certainly notice the reduction in radiant heat when sitting stopped in traffic.

BTW, I didn't de-cat, I traded out the header for an aftermarket pipe. Mine is ceramic coated, which probably help even more.
Decatted mine last Friday. 2 things that really stood out were that it idles smoother and better throttle responce. I did not notice a big difference in heat and the wife didn't comment either way. It did cool down this weekend so that may have something to do with not noticing a big difference in heat.

To me the little work was well worth it from the better responce to my heavy right wrist.
I havent seen any difference except heat. If you want I have one I can decat Thurs and mail out to yah, $30 + ship. Its off a 13 flhtk.
11 ultra 96 motor decatted an was cooler gas mileage increased. A lot cooler back cylinder doesn't shut down in traffic like before. Put Vance Hines fuelpak on mileage dropped an some decel pop. Probably wouldn't do the Vance Hines thing again.
Made my Rineharts sound 100 x's better
less heat and a deeper tone for me
less heat and a deeper tone for me
+1.

I also noticed better throttle response and a bit more torque down low. Well worth the effort IMO.

FWIW, I bought a complete take-off exhaust system from an indy shop for $100, and I'm talking from the exhaust gaskets to the mufflers. I gutted that headpipe and put mine away... just in case. $125 for a gutted headpipe sounds like a decent deal.
Decatted

14SGS SE AC V&H FP3V&H twin slash decatted stock head pipe dealer did it before I rode it so I have no before and after. Decatted because of heat on friends 14 SG. I wanted stage 1 ,only performance upgrade I need, bikes are identical other than color ,and mine is decatted his is not. The heat differance is noticeable sitting at idle,my bike has a noticeable lope and deeper sound than his,we do have different fuel maps,I was getting decel pop so I entered that I had duals for head pipes. My bike pulls a length on him if we roll on from 20mph and pulls away till I leave off. Best comparasion I can think of,differance in heat at idle while sitting on either bike to me was worth it.
9 out of 10 people will tell you they saw a noticeable difference in heat when either Cat was removed or catlesshead pipes were installed. I added Rush True Duals that are ceramic coated inside and out. I also run Synthetic oil and I do NOT have heat problems.
I have a 2014 road king and installed decatted stock head pipe. A lot less heat after install but it was still hot with stock mufflers . Installed Rush big Louie mufflers with 2.00 baffles and the heat is almost all gone from the right side by my calf. With completely stock set up I got a blister on my right calf from the heat when I was only wearing above ankle boots and jeans instead of my normal harness boots. Bike sounds great now and seems to have a little more low end torque but that may be just wishful thinking...
What year did the cat start being used? I have an 02 FLH and am wondering if I have one....Great thread, thanks for all the input
Not sure exacty...around 09 I think an 02 doesn't have a cat.
