Hi Forum,

Hope everyone's good.

I'm in the UK and I am a little confused by the specifications for engine and transmission oil for my 1967 shovel head. Can I please have some recommendations for both engine and transmission oils? Temperature isn't too hot over here, and so I guess a 'medium' weight would suffice.

Thanks for any advice.

Cheers

The trans should get a light grade gear lube, maybe #75W. Remove the lower plug after draining the trans and fill until the lube leaks from the plug then button things up. Should be done with the bike level.
Engine oil is either 50 or 60 straight weight, 4 stroke air cooled engine spec. 3 qts I think.

I run 60 weight in my '81 shovel, but I live in south Florida where it's hot year round. It's getting harder and harder to find straight weight dino oil.

If I don't want to spend the money on HD SAE60, I look at Valvoline SAE 60. BTW, my shovel takes at least 4 quarts, but it does have an oil cooler too.

Post some pics of your bike so we can enjoy looking at it too.
