Pull primary cover and take a look. How many miles?
04, trans and PRI same oil right? Brass could be from shifter forks. Have to pull trans to check that. Not that familiar with 04

There is an inherent problem with the clutches on sportys. They use a steel spring plate with brass rivets and the rivets wear and break out. Tear it down immediately and hope you didn't screw the basket up.

Pull it down.

Had the same thing with my 91 FLH. The clutch was acting up also. Took it all apart and found the spring plate in prices. There was a grove worn in the hub. Didn't have money to replace it so I figured I would try to reuse. Works perfect.
