just curious took a 100 mile trip and pretty much emptied the tank was 98%hwy

Was it really a full tank? By that I mean not where the pump shuts off when all the way in but full as you can get without spillage.

I can't remember what kind of mileage I got during the first 1k miles. But I know it seemed low but I also was not getting anywhere near a full tank. Didn't want to spill on paint. Now on Highway I average 50-55. Usually not less than 45 all around. 2010 FXDC.

on the dealer site it should show what the bike should get for mpg. Did your fuel light come on, how many gal did it take to fill. I think i get 38 after pipes, ac and a tune for the af..

Most of the FI bikes on this forum seem to be averaging around 50-52 MPG bone stock .
Next tank fill her to the brim & run her till the light comes on & fill her back up to exactly where you did the first time , check how much it held & how many miles you got & , BINGO ! That's your true mileage .
Congratulations on your wise purchase of a Wide Glide . Course , I'm kinda partial to WG"S !

Can't remember if that has a 5 gallon or 6 gallon tank, but assume 5 gallons at even a measly 40 mpg should have gotten you more than 150 miles. Sounds to me there might be a bit of a problem.

Even with my low fuel light on and the range function displaying LOW RANGE I still have an easy 3/4 of a gallon left in my tank. I used to fill up when the gauge was in the red but it never took more than 3 1/4 gallons, I could see how a low fill and the misleading stock gauge could have you thinking you where empty at 100 or so miles.

Run a few tanks thru it before you make a judgement on fuel consumption. After it's broken in it will get better gas mileage and you'll have a better idea of what it will do after about 500-1000 miles. I've had two FXDCs....you should get around 44-47 mpg with average riding conditions/useage....I've never gotten the 50mpg some claim... I usually got about 170 miles to a tank before fill up...sometimes a little more and sometimes a little less...

Are you just looking at the fuel gauge? Check the tank to see how much fuel is actually in there. Maybe you have a faulty gauge? 100 miles is not very far on a 5-6 gal. tank.

Your tank is 4.56 gallons and the low fuel warning light come's on with 1.22 gallons remaining. I get 43 mpg highway. I don't put my faith in the guage or the miles remaining. I calculate actual mileage with every fill up and that also is a good gauge to see if I am having any problems.

How much fuel was in it when you started?
