While looking through Harley-Davidson's parts and accessories website, I noticed Harley-Davidson has a new Lithium Battery. Not trying to start another "Battery Thread" but thought this might be interesting information. On "paper" the battery looks great, has more cold cranking amps, weighs a lot less (4 pounds vs. 20 pounds) has a longer life expectancy, will only discharge 10% over a one-year period, etc. The only negative (no pun intended) is that the cost for my 2016 Ultra Limited is $299.95. With that being said, there is something to be said about reliability and dependability and if the battery outlasts a regular lead battery, the cost might be worth it.

Harley-Davidson has a new battery tender too (I realize other manufactures do too) which is for lead based and Lithium based batteries, as a Lithium battery holds a higher charge than a lead battery. Curious if anyone has tried out the Harley-Davidson battery and how their cost compares. Looks like it comes with a "spacer box" so the battery does not have to be shimmed since it is a lot smaller.

Had one on a Metric Bike .. Just remember need a Tender designed for LiFePo4 and when it's cold ( Less than 40 F ) Run your lights and maybe even Flashers or Brake lights a bit as load increases your starting voltage .. Biggest Drawback if ever let it discharge below 12 volts sitting it's all done .. They do have advantages, mine started like a champ but learned the drawbacks before let them come back to haunt me ..

That's only twice as much as the standard Harley touring battery. Plus of course that charger if ya don't already have one.

Gonna have to wait on that one...even though they have been out a while, the technology is new to Harley...it's a wait and see the problems for me. I use Yuasa batteries...take care of them and they last...good CCA too...mine is 650...really turns the engine over even when cold.

Yeah I did some reading on those batteries yesterday. They are worse than AGM batteries below 40, and that's when I need more help on cranking, not less!
Just like your cell phone, tablet or laptop ! Don't let them sit out in your car overnight in below freezing weather. Lithium don't like cold at all ! Way better than the 6 volt wet cell (lead acid) breather batteries I had in my old cars and bikes tho ! Remember the 6 volt charging systems ? How about vacuum actuated windshield wipers !!!
Unreal how far automotive technology has progressed in the last 60 years ! Just in my lifetime !

Local Stealer brought out one of the new batteries the other day. About half the size of a regular battery, and yes, even the accompanying paperwork says it ain't worth a blank in cold temps. The 300 bucks price doesn't appeal to me either.
I had a '62 Beetle, and it was a fun car to have, but I do NOT remember it having vacuum assist windshield wipers.

All other considerations equal, the lithium battery is 2-3 times the price of a good AGM battery. I don't know for sure and don't have any data to back it up but it seems a good AGM battery cared for properly will pretty easily last 4-5 years. Of course there are exemptions either way. If the lithium batter doesn't last 2-3 times as long, or 10 years or so plus or minus, just can't justify the increased cost.

One other consideration crossed my mind, where the battery tray is located on Harleys ... right between the rider's goods ! Then I consider would I feel secure riding around with a potential grenade between mine ? Hmmmmm !
There's speculation that Flight 370 was flamed by a cargo of Lithium batteries ! E-Cigs, cell phones, tablets have all flamed from Lithium batteries.
I dunno, I think I'll wait a while before trying.

Few years back Boeing started using them in one of their newest airliners. Had several fires and midflight emergencies. Don't know how they solved issue with batteries.

I put a battery tender Lithium battery on my 09 ultra last year. Cost $225. That battery will start my bike with no hesitation where my HD battery always had a little hesitation to it, yes even when it was new. I just bought a Twin Power lithium for my 94 heritage. And 3 lbs is sure a lot nice to handle than that 20 pounder. Lol

I got one on 2/22/19 my local dealer had a 25% off on that day only. So it was $225.00 with tax. Haven’t used it yet waiting for it to get warmer but my AGM battery is 6 years old. Guess I’ll see how it does in the coming months. Will get the dual charger later it is supposed to stay fully charged up to 12 months. In the bike with the alarm on and no riding for 3 weeks it should start. You should hook your dual tender up if it will sit longer than that.

Hello. Been considering going to the new "Lithium" battery. I have heard, that they WILL explode. Don't think I would like a bomb under my ass. I have not heard anything about this issue in quite some time. Have they "fixed" this problem?

Where have you 'heard' they WILL explode?

I have 'heard' they will tickle my jimmies, make me rich and attractive to all the ladies.
