I bought a 2004 Heritage Softail with stock Harley exhaust. I wanted louder pipes so I got a good deal on a set of used Screaming Eagle IIs with only 500 miles on them. They are too loud and raspy. I am looking for a solution to tame them down a bit, but not as quiet as the stock pipes. like a low muffled rumble without the harshness. Is this possible? Seems most people want replacement baffles to make them louder, not quieter.

I have SE II slip on's on my Electra Glide and they are just a little louder/deeper than stock. SE slip ons come in many different configurations. If yours has removeable baffles (2-3 button head screws near the end), pull them out and see if they have been messed with. People change the baffles, or more common cut them off or drill more holes in them. Cycle Shack makes performance baffles for most SE slip ons if yours have been butchered.

I will pull them and check them out. The guy I bought them from was an older guy, don't know if he would butcher them or not.
