Hey all 😊
Just traded my KLR for a sporty with big bore kit. It runs a tad rough at low revs so I’m wanting to clean and overhaul the carb. As it has the bog bore kit - I’m not sure what overhaul kit I should buy for it. I would rather have the kit in hand before I pull the carb off as I don’t want it off the road because it’s soooooo much fun 😊 Any advice from the experts would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance - a new Harley convert

Running a "tad rough" at low revs does not mean a rebuild is necessary.
Just say`in...... :dunno

I want it running better so I feel confident with my wife riding it. I suspect a good clean is probably all it needs - just wanted to be prepared in case. Last owner said he cleaned the carb but I’m not sure he knew exactly what he was doing.

Maybe give a can of Sea Foam in a tank of 90+ octane gas along with a spark plug change a try first.

Why did the previous owner clean(?) it?

What cam is in it?

If you insist on going ahead with a rebuild.

Not sure what cam - but the stutter is not consistent as a cam would give. It certainly feels like carb to me. Previous owner got it from a family friend who got it from his grandpa. Was stood unused for a while so am assuming CA gummy gas is the culprit.
Checked out the link you sent and those prices are great. Hopefully that’s all it will be and then it’s on to shining the chrome!
One of the turn signals has a missing lens - came with a set of bullet style replacements still in their box - but not sure they’re quite my style. That’s the amazing thing with these bikes - so many options to personalise
Almost midnight and I already feel like I should be in the garage pulling the carb off and prodding and poking with wire brush bristles lol. Maybe tomorrow

Like Evo said, check the intake seals first. A leak there will cause you problems. Then give carb a good cleaning. You can also get a good rebuilt kit from James gaskets if it’s a stock CV carb. If it’s stumbling on the low end and won’t idle good without a little choke, the pilot jet is probably clogged.

Previous owner replaced diaphragm/piston but didn’t seat it properly so it was holed. Replaced with HD part (only one available at short notice) and it runs way better. I did notice the choke cable seems too long and sticks in the off position too. Looks like the cable has been replaced at some point so I’m assuming maybe it’s the wrong cable. May be worth ordering a genuine one to cure that.
Bar riser bushes maybe the next job. Are the cheap ones ok? Or are they something where the more you pay - the more noticeable the difference.
