Hi- I've got a 91 fxst and decided to change my oil pump because i found shavings in the oil. And sure enough, I'd somehow lost a gear tooth somewhere along the way. Anyway changed it out and went smoothly

But, as i'm doing final assembly on SE pushrods, I reach about 3 turns (always meticulous about this) and I hear something 'snap' and then the pushrod spins freely-no up and down play, but spins freely as if the lifter had instantly bled down

so pull things apart and inspect the lifter...seems perfectly fine...pushrod is straight, too

I cringe to think I did something up top in the head?

The "snap" was probably the top of the pushrod ball end dropping into place in the rocker arm cup. That happens !

If in doubt jack the rear tire off the ground, pull the plugs and roll the engine over using the back tire in gear. If anything binds you'll be able to feel it before any damage happens.
