Just wanted to follow-up on first step diagnostics, FUEL, older bikes with vacuum actuated petcocks might get flaky with operation if the hose has degraded which might prevent fuel flowing from tank to carburetor.
Also loosen the filler cap to release possible vacuum lock if the cap vent is causing an issue with reliable fuel flow.
If fuel flow is confirmed, check for spark, issues could be:
fuse, ignition module, fouled plugs, failed coil, failed crank position sensor.
My guess, low battery volts ! The battery has enough voltage to turn the starter over but not enough left for the ignition to function. Charge the battery overnight and try starting again.
Bikes with a kill switch (early `70s and later), will not crank if the switch is turned to the off/stop position.
