I was right when Larry pinged me an hour after surgery on Thursday to ride to OK and KS on Sat and Sun and I said "this could be epic". I was VERY right.

Started out at 5:30 from Cresson, TX. Met Larry @pipewizard in Gainesville about 7 am for some Whataburger Honey Butter Chicken Biscuits and coffee.

From there we hit the backroads and went to Seaba Station in Chandler, OK. seabastation.com Pretty decent museum. Donation for entry. 30 min is all you really need. Worth a side trip if you are within 100 miles or so.

Stopped at the Hickory House in Cleveland, OK. $11 was pretty sweet deal for more food than we could eat.

On to Coffeyville, KS. Went to the Dalton Defenders Museum. It is rumored Bill Doolin (my ancestor) was the "6th man". He handled the horses in "death alley" during the robbery and managed to get away.

1 of the banks they tried to rob, Condon. The other bank was the 1st National, in the back where the empty lot is now.

A 150 miles later the next morning, we were at Twisted Oz
www.twistedoz.com

They had the most Excelsior Henderson motorcycles I have ever seen.

My first ride on a motorcycle as a 5 year old in '71 was on a CB160 nearly identical to this one. I rode on the back with my dad all over the place.

A cannonball coast to coast bike...
Brakes gave out 1/2 way and he used his shoes to stop.
Tank split and they got the black box on back from Tractor supply Co and fashioned a tank to make it the rest of the way.

A great time was had by all.

Had lunch with Tommy and one of Pipe's son's families. Tommy headed back home from there.

High tailed it home. Hit a massive storm. I was "guessing" I was still in my lane at times. I white knuckled it and we got through. I told pipe, as we were both soaked to the bone, we will be glad for this in a few miles. Sure enough it hit 100 later that day and I was missing the 74 and torrential rain.

We split at Stillwater and I super-slabbed it the rest of the way back. Got home about 9:30. Quick shower and bed. Up at 5 and off to work. I swore I would take the truck all week, but I was wrong. Couldn't resist the call of the bike this morning.

Hope you enjoyed the virtual trip with us.
