I have a 92 883. I thought I had a bad starter. But when I removed the primary cover to see if it was engaging I found that my starter was working fine. But the ring gear just spins. It does not cause the motor to spin. Can someone tell me is this a clutch problem or what it is? Thanks in advance

That's what I thought. But when I removed the clutch basket the ring gear is still attached. Anything else it could be or am I missing something?

It might still be attached, but did you not see it spinning on the basket when the starter was engaged???

If the ring gear is spinning then I have to assume the primary chain is also spinning. That being the case I suspect there's something amiss with the comp. sprocket assy..
