Plz help identify a part

1839 Views 17 Replies 10 Participants Last post by  chasarms
Hi All,
I am new to the forum. My father is trying to rebuild an 84 Tour Glide and has run into a problem with a part for the caliper on his brakes. He stated that when he goes to our local dealership the part is shown in drawings but doesn't have a name or part number associated with it. Can anyone tell me what this part is and where he can find 2 of them? Thanks for any help or advice you can give.

Front or rear caliper.
Looking it up shows similar part for both. I believe it is part of an assembly and probably not sold separately.

I agree. It appears to be part of the guide pin kit. 44053-83A.
Thanks for the input. My father has purchased two of the pin kits from J&P cycles and said the part is not in either. Making the situation worse he said he purchased a caliper kit and the part wasn't there either.
You did`t say front or rear.
If front it looks like the part pictured between #3 and #12. Maybe part of the "pin boot" assembly. 44054-83

Looks like it is in the OEM kit part # I posted.

What are the odds that if he purchased a kit from J&P cycles instead of directly from Harley that the part isn't included? I am not sure but I think he needs one for both the front and the rear.

Harley rarely sells "kits". Most of their parts are sold one at a time, and they get more money that way.
Different parts for front and rear.
If both parts have been properly identified the the rear caliper needs 2.
The front needs 2 also. One per caliper.
If the part is internally threaded then it is for the rear.

Have a look here. May help.

Just sayin'...
I am in agreement Ronnie. one or more sleuth will figure it out. you guys are good.
But the part in the photo does not look like the one in the diagrams... different style head... hex versus gear like... that does not matter?

Doubt the head design has anything more to do with it then ease of install\removal.
Could be that the MoCo, as usual had a special tool in order to get more revenue

Must be... everything else looks the same... and I can see where the two would fit in the same spot.

How do you know the ones on the bike are OEM?
