If the odometer works check for codes, the procedure is a sticky in the electrical section. The codes will show in the odometer window. Post the codes here. Checking DTCs.

By any chance are you running a fuel pak, power commander, or other piggy back fuel controller?

Unplug and replug the connection. Sometimes it gets a little corrosion on the pins & sockets . :)

Please post what you learn. My 06 king has the same problem. Haven't replaced the sensor, have an oversized starter I haven't pulled to get to it yet. Mines carbureted with a dyno tune ignition.

I'll try checking all the plug's.
Kinda used to riding it with out now.

Diagnostic Tips

For a quick check of speedometer function, a "wow" test

can be performed. Press and hold odometer reset switch

then turn ignition switch ON. Release reset switch.

Background lighting should illuminate,

gauge needles should sweep their full range of motion,

and indicator lamps [battery, security, low fuel (EFI models),

check engine and cruise] should illuminate. Some

lamps may illuminate even though they do not apply to

the vehicle. For example, the cruise lamp may illuminate

even though the motorcycle is not equipped with cruise

control.

If speedometer fails "wow" test, check for battery, ground,

ignition, accessory and speedometer reset switch to

speedometer. If any feature in the speedometer is nonfunctional,

Pull speedometer and have it tested at the Dealer, most likely it is a

bad speedometer .

ok i ran that test, the background lights as soon as i push/hold the trip button. Even before i turn the switch on. But the speedometer sweeps & all lights come on. Then i go through holding the trip down in each catagory & all reads "none".....

anybody with anymore suggestions before I break down and buy new speedometer. And also is this what everything is pointing to??

Terry
I don't think its your speedometer if it passes the sweep test.

Need to track that speed serial feed from the ECM to the Speedo in the loom. WOW test is saying speedo is ok, it is not getting info from the ECM.
