So I had my 2000 sportster dyno tuned and my #s were a bit lower than I expected. 10.5-1 comp .536 cams and had the heads cleaned up a bit with a 42 Mikuni carb. It has a fat torque curve but both numbers peaked lower than expected. I have 2.25 in drag pipes with BCT baffles and was thinking that swapping to a 2-1 (I mean making since I don't see any I like the looks of) if I could pick up the peak numbers to 80 HP 70 TQ. What do you guys think?

Just about anything will be better than 2.25" drags!

If you're making your own 2-1, use 1.75" tubes.

Agree with Kai.

1 3/4" drag pipes suck everywhere on tip-top. 2 1/4" drags....I can't imagine how bad that'd be on an otherwise ready to rock Sportster.

I bet the BCT baffles helped significantly, but a real good 2-1 system like SuperTrapp or Thunderheader and that Sportster ought to SCAT!

the best looking 2-1 to me is the patriot defender but they only have them out for rubber mounts. I read about people petting them on frame mounts with just a bracket but it won't work with foreword controls from what I understand. Looks like ******* engineering may have to come to the rescue again.

I have the thunderheader on mine, it sure wakes it up. Also works with forward controls. I agree with the other fellers, those pipes are killing your bottom end. I had 66 torque numbers on mine when i converted it to a 1200. everything else was stock. MY HP was 64. You have the HP #'s......just need the bottom end torque. The dyno run below is 883/1200 conversion...

That's about what i figured. I hate to see them go but they have to. What's the general rules to building a good performing 2-1? Equal length 1.75 inch head pipes and a good merge collector into a 2.25 inch pipe? Thanks guys.

I would just but a good set. With the uneven firing order it would be near impossible to get a perfectly tuned set building them. I say let somebody else figure that part out.
