Rain Gear

I'm sure this topic has been thoroughly discussed, but being new, I'd like some input. I have owned several Harley rain gear sets. Along with Frogg Toggs, etc. I've yet to own a pair of rain pants that didn't leak in the crotch area. Leak badly! Let me state that I ride a Harley Road Glide Ultra with a Sundowner touring seat. The shape of the seat causes puddling in the crotch area during moderate rain. Now matter how well tape sealed the pants claim to be, they leak. Can someone offer suggestions on what pants to buy, or how to resolve this? Short of drilling a hole in my seat. I love my Sundowner.

I ride a Road King and my seat does the same thing. I never had a problem with my pants leaking but before I wore them in the rain I sprayed all the seams with the stuff the sale to seal tent seams. It has worked without a problem so far.

I tried to edit the incorrect spelling, but couldn't edit the Title. Thank you for taking time to point that out.

If that happens again, hit ADVANCED EDIT. It allows you to change the title as well, but not forever.

As well, as a new member, it's nice to read an introduction of sorts before others answer questions.

It's only polite. :thumbsup

I'm currently using Nelson Riggs AX7 rain gear. My thought on pants is tight is bad, it stresses the seams, and lets water in. My normal pant size is LG (36). My rain pants are 2XL bibs with suspenders, and there is plenty of slack in the crotch seam. The suspenders keep the pants from sagging and stretching the crotch seam. I got no proof, just a dry butt after riding in the rain. :)
And now we wait.

I have a 120 $ pair of Tour Masters and rode in the rain for 3 hours on Sat. No wet spots.

Gotta tell ya though, Gortex isn't made to be sat on. When you sit on the material you change the wicking properties and water will leak in. Same for back pack straps and goretex pants on a boat. My butt and shoulders always got wet.

For some reason, I'm envisioning you with a trash bag with holes cut out for your legs...

Being a long-distance traveler, I've considered the trash bag route!:biking:

Dang it!!! I'm always late to the party!! Hahahaha....
Try stretching a thin layer of neoprene over the seat when it rains. Perhaps this will eliminate the puddling effect. I suspect most suits will leak if sitting in a puddle of water for a length of time.

Plus one on the Tourmaster set. I've had a set for about 3 years and have put several hundred miles in the rain wearing them. Non problems yet. Frog Togs tore up my second trip in them.

I'm a Frogg Togg fan. Never ever have had a problem (except that one time I let my pants leg rest on a hot pipe).

Don't holler, doubled because sumbeach wouldn't load, must have clicked it twice.
Twelve dollar Coleman pants from Walmart and the Columbia rain coat I've had for years.

Looks like crap, but I've never had a drop of bev get inside.

Not many can pull that look off.
