Yes the axle direction can be reversed. As long as it's not the cammed style axle.
rear axle direction
Is there any reason why the rear axle can not be installed from the left side so that future removal of the rear tire can be done without removing the muffler? The shop manual is specific that it be installed from the right side.

I reversed the axle on my FXD, cause I was tired of taking pipes off.

Well its back in as the manual stated for now but next time it comes off it will be reversed. Thanks for the replies.
