Rear Tire replacement

2274 Views 16 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  Miles Tequillya
I am replacing my rear tire on a 08 SG. This will be my third replacement and the first two were oem Dunlops. I have put 15k on each set but am considering a different tire than oem. Anything out there that will deliver something close to that? I am running the oem front Dunlop, will there be any problem with a mismatch for the rear? Thanks in advance.

If you got 15k out of each of the last 2, why change?????
^^thats no joke. I'm getting about 6
k out of tires on my WG. Granted they are hardly any highway miles, but I'd be tickled pink with 15k.

Some people think a bike tire should get the same mileage as their car .
I just bought a new rear tire for my bike and it's the same Dunlop that's on it
I jus like how they preform in the Rain and wet pavement
I'M to old to learn new tricks

check out J C whitney

Vance and Hinds for different tires and their prices

Vance & Hinds is were I got my tire best price and shipping 5 bucks
I have switched to American Elite from Dunlop, At 5K can not hardly see wear. They've been to DC, Skyline Dr, Blue Ridge, Dragon.

They corner great. I was surprised when I touched floor board on Ultra. The tire sticks like glue.
I got 15,500 out of my stock rear. Have a Michelin 11 on it now. See what happens.
The stock 407/408 is the same as the american elite as far as compound, probably wear better then stockers from a 08. I have had 2 sets and like them well
I've had real good luck with Metzlers over the years.
+1on the Metzlers..Have had great luck
Thanks guys, so it won't be a problem to run the metzlers on the rear and the stock Dunlop on the front?
How are the Elite's in the rain?
Came up through Harrisburg in a blinding downpour they did well. Have not used them on twisty roads in rain. Usually the 110 would break traction on wet roads with very little input from the throttle on half worn factory tires. Have not felt it on these.
How are the Elite's in the rain?
I have run several sets and several days in the rain...with no issues at all...great pricing aiso...
Great....thanks for the feedback. Trying to decide whether to go with the stock 402 or the Elite

Concur. Switched to the American Elite as well and love them. This is Dunlop's answer to the OEMs, which HD will not allow Dunlop to sell commercially. This way I'm not restricted to the dealer and can order on-line. Oh yea, I'm getting 15,000 miles on them as well.
My opinion I think that's great mileage on those tires. Keeping them inflated and riding techniques is important in getting the most miles out of a tire, wheather it's a cage or a bike. I would be very happy to get those kinds of miles on a tire. :)

No problem what so ever
