How do you remove the rear axle nut on a 2014 Breakout? What tool do you use since the hex head is so big? Do you loosen from the left side or from the right where the exhaust is? Is there locktite on the threads? Tried to loosen it with a hex head bolt and impact wrench. Unsuccessful
Can`t believe an impact would`t bust it loose.
The older ones were castle nuts with a cotter pin. No Loctite. But may have changed.
When I pulled mine on a 99 FXST got it done by hand with a 3/4" drive ratchet and large crescent wrench.
Bike was used though so do`t know if it had been off and re-torqued properly before or not.
Depends on the air gun and how much air pressure. I got two 1/2 inch air guns one will go 200 # plus the other is a piece of $@&! Won't break a 1/4" bolt brand spankin new gun. Manufacturer replaced couple of times now says I use them too much. Expect too much from it WTF!!
There's a special wrench (Kent Moore) that's used on the later model rear axles. A large socket will work but clearance can be an issue. The Kent Moore tool is actually an extension used in conjunction with a half inch drive ratchet wrench or torque wrench.
I don't want to sound mean, or to dis you, but if you can't get a nut off a bolt, maybe you need a little more "learning" before trying to work on your bike.

Man... sometimes the people on here answer posts even when they have no idea whats going on. But at least they are offering what they believe is to be help, unlike the one guy that said something along the line that since you dont know how to bring an axle nut off you better get educated before you move on in life, he,s the dumbest one of them all. This Breakout configuration is an internal hex axle nut which requires a special wrench. Your nut is on the drive belt side of the machine. A hack for this would be to go to the hardware store and purchase an aircraft quality bolt that has a 3/4 in. head and is 1 1/2in. long. Then screw on 3-4 more nuts of the same size and tighten down. Insert this into the internal hex backwards... bolt head first, and remove nut with a 3/4in. 1/2 in. drive socket and a good size break down bar. Be sure you put bolt head first or the nuts will simply back off of the bolt.
