The check engine light on my 2002 Road King is indicating a problem in that it comes on for a couple of seconds then off then back on for 8-10 seconds when first starting the bike.

The service manual section that deals with retrieving codes does not work or there is no code posted.

Does anyone know how to retrieve diagnostic codes on a Road King?

Not sure about the RK, but on my Dyna, you put the run/stop switch to run. hold in the button phor the trip meter, and then turn the key to on.

The odometer will then read "diag" you can cycle through the different mode types by pressing and releasing the trip meter button. Once you phind which mode has the code stored, and display it, you can then hold the trip meter button in phor about 10 seconds and it will clear the code. Your check engine light won't come back on that second time any more.
That's the same mothod for my V-Rods. But the Road King always displays 82882.5 on the led when I perform that sequence.

can you cycle through that? is it the mileage? it's not phormatted like the dyna codes, but maybe it's the code.
No to both questions. I have tried several suggestions over the last few months. Maybe I will break down and ask a dealer tech on how to do this.
