Yesterday, while starting my dyna the starter would not stop. i have removed the start relay and it still continues to run. Seems to me that if i remove the start relay nothing should work. Confused?

Solenoid is shorted internally. Can be rebuilt.

Disconnect battery.

Remove the cover from the starter that has 3 screws holding it on.
Remove the plunger and clean it up with brake cleaner.
Clean up the tube that the plunger fits into the same way.

Replace and make sure the plunger retracts freely when pressed in.

Reconnect battery and test.

Like K said...disconnect the battery! If you try to work on it with it still connected you could easily lose some fingers.

The solenoid plunger and internal contacts can be cleaned up with sandpaper too.
A battery with low volts can also cause the starter to stay engaged after the start button is released.
